Talkback, what online readers are saying about …

… Rowan-Cabarrus would include space for early college

Way to show our youth democracy in action. They are very much in need of a new facility. Allowing them to advocate for themselves and see the process unfold is so vital. Now, we as a community can’t fail them.

— Krissy Weeks

North Rowan High gets Apple …

I’m standing in awe and immense admiration for what Principal Williams, her marvelous inspirational staff and students have done to build a wonderful school and culture.

— Barbara Chandler Allen

… Friends of murder victim Michael Earley hold protest …

You guys need to come together as a whole community and help seek justice for Michael. That was someone’s son, future husband and friend. What if that was your son? Your other half? Your friend? Would you just sit back then?

— Sierra Russell

I think if you’re charged for concealing a body in the state of North Carolina you should have no bond.

— Kenneth Shirley

Two arrested in shooting death …

People don’t give our police the credit they deserve. They are highly visible as well as educated and skilled. They do an amazing job, from the towns to sheriffs and state police. I’m so proud of them and their commitment to us.

— Terry Pie

School board pressured to
re-examine K-8 …

Isn’t it funny, they wanted to close Faith and out of the blue the county found millions to keep it open?

— Kristin Stauffer

RSS has had its priorities in the wrong place for years. The proposed Band-Aid for Knox is the latest example. Now is the time to build a completely new school to replace Knox and Overton and see how the K-8 concept will work.

— Kyle Huffman

Letter: Bishop wrong to call for identifying whistleblower

In this case, protecting the identity of the whistleblower is a tool Rep. Adam Schiff is using to make the kangaroo impeachment inquiry waters even more muddied than they inherently are.

It is a moot point because his identity has already been revealed.

— Bill Evans

North Carolina lawmakers redraw congressional map

This map continues to have Salisbury and Rowan County in a predominately politically gerrymandered district. Independently drawn maps are required for a fair election.

— George W Benson

Organizers demand fair treatment in Overton-Knox …

I’d trust Superintendent Lynn Moody with her comments. So, speak up at the meeting teachers. I’d also have Plan B in place the following weeks like having another job lined up.

— Jim Beck

I’m all for removing Salisbury out of the school system and going back to Salisbury City Schools. See how the community schools can last without the city funding.

— Shawne Stauffer

First North, then Faith, now Overton. There’s a need to consolidate schools, but which one(s)? It doesn’t really matter unless its your community’s school on the chopping block, eh?

— Eric Shock

Hillian, Mallett clear air on mayoral campaign …

East Spencer’s leadership team is ready to work together to move the town forward.

— Jeff Morris

Editorial: Help civic engagement, go nonpartisan

To prevent legislators in the future, no matter the party in power, from gerrymandering, a requirement for a nonpartisan commission needs to be in the state’s constitution.

— Pat Bullard

Letter: School board can do better than closure

As a grandmother of an Overton student and a resident of Eagle Heights, I do not pay my large tax bill to have a good school with good teachers close down. There is no reason to move away from the K-8 option previously discussed.

— Marion LeBleu

Thank you, Father Black, for stepping up to the plate as the leader of a local church and advocating for justice and equity. Your input and the church’s input is needed and greatly appreciated.

— Renee Wimbish

My Turn, Anthony Smith: Go for the win-win at Knox, Overton

Thank you for putting little faces and voices to this issue, which will affect every facet of their lives for many years to come. The children’s growth, health and welfare must outweigh any other considerations.

— Shirley Gray McNeil

Attorney: Power Cross coach denies …

This is such a false allegation of such a great young man. This is how Satan works. I pray that all of you people judging him and saying awful things about him will understand that this is just a test of his faith.

— LeRhonda    Laurette Goode

Letter: Bitter taste after meal in downtown Salisbury

There’s a sign posted at the parking lot in question. Go Burrito has posted a flier at the door warning patrons. It has also posted on social media.

It’s a deplorable situation, but the owner has chosen to begin towing cars parked. Not something in the realm of control of Go Burrito or other Salisbury businesses.

— Eric Shock
