SALISBURY — The film “Goodbye, Butterfly” will be shot in Salisbury on Dec. 2-22.

According to the independent producers, the crime thriller centers on a loving family man who, after his 8-year-old daughter is murdered, becomes convinced the oddball character down the street is guilty of the crime.

The father holds the man hostage in his suburban basement. As the father tries to torture the truth out of the man, police are investigating the recent disappearance of a child.

Wayne T. Young is the writer and director of the film. Lead actors will be announced at a later date.

About 30 cast and crew members will be involved in the filming. GBB Film will make 20 local hires to fill roles for production assistants, extras and various support roles.

“Goodbye, Butterfly” will be filmed throughout the city, including on South Main Street in downtown Salisbury.

City Communications Director Linda McElroy said the producers want to highlight the community and its hometown feel, especially with the holiday spirit. The city’s holiday decorations will be incorporated in “Goodbye, Butterfly.”

The film crew is looking for more locations, including studio apartments, basement homes, wooded areas or fields near houses, and storefronts. Anyone interested should email gbbfilm@gmail.com. Property owners will be paid for use of the locations.

The producers are expected to spend 60% of the $240,000 budget locally.

McElroy said unlike “The 24th,” which was filmed in Salisbury over the summer, there should be minimal effects on traffic with this film. On Some days, there may be intermittent traffic control or short road closures.

Local residents are invited to apply to be extras for multiple scenes. Extras will receive IMDb credit and crawl credit and be provided meals. Casting agents are looking for men, women and children of all races and ages.

Anyone interested should send an email including full name, age, cellphone number, residence, and two photos with no filters to gbbfilm@gmail.com with subject line: EXTRAS.

The typical workday will be 12 or more hours.
