High school football: Wonders romp in rivalry game

KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown’s football team dominated Concord on Friday, 59-21.
The South Piedmont Conference victory, A.L. Brown’s fifth straight over the Spiders, ended the season for Concord (1-10, 1-4).
The Wonders (7-3, 3-2) will be in the 3AA playoffs. They’ll find out their seed and matchup today.
Cox Mill’s stunning 41-34 victory against previously unbeaten Northwest Cabarrus shook things up dramatically in the SPC and will impact playoff seeds, but the Wonders will be playing somewhere next Friday.
Cam Kromah threw three touchdown passes to Isaiah Black, who began the season as the starting quarterback. Kromah also connected with Jose Vargas on a long scoring play.
Jakhiry Bennett and Todd Kennedy had rushing scores.
A.L. Brown got defensive touchdowns from Josiah Cauthen and Xavier Jordan.
Ty Woods kicked a field goal for the Wonders, who led 14-0 after the first quarter and by 38-7 at halftime.
Concord’s Nigel Robinson had a kickoff return touchdown late in the first half to put Concord on the scoreboard and added a receiving touchdown.
Trey Wilson ran for a score for the Spiders.
