Friday
– The city of Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce another, free outdoor movie to be shown as part of its summer events series. On Friday at 8:45 p.m., the popular children’s classic, “Charlotte’s Web,” rated G, will be shown on the 40-by-20-foot Time Warner Big Screen at the Village Park Amphitheater, between West A and C streets off of Dale Earnhardt Boulevard.
Gather the family and pack up a blanket for the classic story of loyalty, trust and sacrifice brought to life. Cast includes Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey, Dakota Fanning and Reba McEntire.
Every other Friday through Aug. 17, the Village Park Amphitheater will be host to a popular, family friendly hit. The final feature to be shown will be “Flushed Away.”

– The Board of Adjustment will meet on Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Kannapolis Train Station, located at 201 South Main Street, Kannapolis.

Aug. 9- CONCORD รณ Cabarrus College of Health Sciences is hosting an open house for prospective students on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Representatives from the offices of admissions, financial aid, the registrar and faculty from each program will be available to meet with prospective students.
Cabarrus College offers associate degree programs in Medical Assistant, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Surgical Technology and Associate in Science. Baccalaureate completion programs are offered in Health Services Management, Medical Imaging, and Nursing. Continuing education courses are also available.
Applications can still be submitted for the fall semester.

– The Kannapolis City Council will meet beginning at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Kannapolis Train Station, 201 S. Main St., Kannapolis.

Aug. 18
– Registration is now open for a trip to Glendale Springs to the Mountain Music Jamboree on Saturday, Aug. 18. Participants will leave the YMCA at 3 p.m. and will return at approximately 11 p.m. The jamboree features the finest traditional music and dance show found anywhere. There is live bluegrass and old-time bands with clogging, square dancing and smiles for everyone.
Cost for the trip is $45 and includes transportation on a chartered bus and ticket for the Mountain Music Jamboree. The bus will stop for dinner on the way but the price of dinner is not included. Seats are limited so register early.

Aug. 21
– The new Cabarrus Arts Council Galleries has scheduled its next docent training class for Tuesday, Aug. 21, 9-11 a.m.
The volunteer docents greet visitors, offer commentary and lead tours through the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse. Before the opening of each new exhibition, docents receive a detailed description of the art work and information about each artist. The docents serve as a resource for the current exhibition, upcoming events, the Arts Council’s affiliate groups and the historic courthouse itself. Docents are asked to commit to at least one three-hour shift per month.
