Area Sports: South volleyball sweeps

South Rowan’s volleyball team swept a second-round playoff match on Tuesday at home, beating Lake Norman Charter 25-7, 25-11 and 25-16.

Anna Rymer had 18 assists, 11 kills and nine digs.  Kira Rymer had 12 assists, 13 kills and 16 digs.

Ashlyn Faw had 13 digs, seven aces and five kills. Payton Black had 16 digs.

South will play West Stokes at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Carson’s 18th-seeded volleyball team ended the season with a second-round loss in 3A playoffs at No. 2 seed West Henderson.

The Cougars (20-8) fell 25-18, 25-20 and 25-23.

Ninth-seeded Davie (17-10) ended the season with an 18-25, 25-13, 25-21 and 25-22 loss at Ardrey Kell in the second round of the 4A state playoffs.

  

HS girls tennis

Carson lost 6-0 at Charlotte Catholic in a 3A regional final on Tuesday.

Doubles weren’t played.

The closest match was Riley Isley’s 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 6 singles.

Carson finished 18-1.

Due to rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, the 2A Western Regional championship match between Salisbury (15-0)  and Hendersonville   (17-0)will take place at the Lake Norman Tennis Center this Thursday on 11 a.m.

  

HS girls golf

Carson’s Sophia Brown made five pars and shot 93 in Tuesday’s second round of the 3A State Championships at Foxfire.

She shot 92 on Monday. Brown finished tied for 35th.

East Rowan’s Carlee Patterson shot 96 on Tuesday after a first-round 98. She made four pars on Tuesday and finished tied for 55th.

Local golf

In the Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association’s final event of the season, the ladies played  played a Low Gross/Low Net event.

Susan Morris won low gross. Judy Caldwell won low net and was followed by Faye Cline, Sheryl Johnson and Susan Houston.

Fifty-three GARS members played at Lexington Golf Club on Monday.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Les Loman with a net of 65.99.

Low ‘B’ Flight player was Jeff Jordan with a net of 66.46.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Bobby Miller with a net of 67.93.

Low ‘D’ Flight player was Larry Perrell with a net of 68.61.

Loman, Gary Schenk and Don Martin tied for low gross score with 78s.

Low net was won by Jeff Jordan.

College football

The South Atlantic Conference players of the week are Mars Hill receiver  Craig Rucker, Tusculum linebacker  Jackson Cauthen and kicker Eli Shepherd.

Little Shooters

The J.F. Hurley YMCA is taking registrations for Little Shooters Basketball

This is a coed basketball league for Pre-K and first-graders and is a great introduction to basketball.

Register until Nov. 10.
