ENOCHVILLE — A 7-year-old boy died Friday night after being struck by a car on N.C. 152.

Sgt. J.G. Leonard, with the N.C. Highway Patrol, said it appears the child darted into the road from a private driveway located at 6320 N.C. 152. That’s near the road’s intersection with Deal Road. Troopers with the Highway Patrol were called to the scene at 9:42 p.m. Friday, Leonard said.

CPR was in progress when troopers arrived on scene, he said. And the child was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The child was struck by a 2005 Toyota RAV4 that was traveling east on N.C. 152, toward Landis and China Grove. The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old China Grove woman, was not injured in the accident, Leonard said.

There were no other vehicles involved or people injured in the accident, he said.

There is no indication that the RAV4’s driver was impaired, Leonard said. He wasn’t able to say whether distracted driving was a factor. Troopers are still investigating whether speed was a factor.

There were no citations issued at the scene of the accident.

The crash is still under investigation.
