Letter: Heggins’ leadership good example for youth in city

As a parent, it is comforting to have in Mayor Al Heggins a community leader who is an incredible role model for my children.

Her accomplishments, experience and choice to serve Salisbury’s community are a testament to her genuine desire to give back and to use her knowledge and training to be of service to others.

Heggins has extensive training in local government administration, mediation and fair housing. Her resume and biography reflect those qualities, which most parents would desire for their children to emulate — high educational attainment, a sense of civic responsibility, commitment to bringing the underrepresented and underserved to the table, calm resilience in times of division and, most importantly, an attitude of compassion and civility.

Her kind spirit and generous demeanor are authentic and unaffected — something that is evidenced by her actions and record of public service.

Heggins’s leadership gives me hope and a sense of excitement for the future of Salisbury. Her vision and direction will continue to make this community a wonderful place for our children to grow up.

I hope people will join me in voting Al Heggins for Salisbury City Council on Election Day, Nov. 5, or during Early Voting through Nov. 1.
