Groups working together to help families at Christmas

Thelma Smith Foundation South Branch, along with Acts of Kindness & Helping Hands, the Benfield Boys Carolina Pickers, Rowan County Fair and Backyard Antiques, will accept 300 children to bless with Christmas cheer. 

To register, go to CrossLife Church of Spencer, 215 Fifth St., Spencer, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

Parents must bring a valid ID, driver’s license or passport, Medicaid card and birth certificate for each child 15 and younger. After the application is processed, the organization will call with a time to pick up items on Dec. 21.

The pick-up location will be the Rowan County Fairgrounds, 1550 Julian Road.

Each family will receive a food donation box and have the option to pick out a few clothing items, shoes and miscellaneous items.

Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor for the giveaway should contact the group at 704-490-3505. It is a nonprofit organization, so all monetary donations or products with a receipt are tax-deductible.

Checks, money orders and cashier’s checks will be accepted. They should be made out to Thelma Smith Foundation South Branch and mailed to 1435 W. Ridge Road, Salisbury, NC 28147. 

Cash donations can be taken to Woodforest National Bank in the account for Thelma Smith Foundation South Branch. A deposit slip is requested for a tax deduction.
