9/11 Remembrance Service

First Reformed Church, 210 N. Central Avenue in Landis, will host a special “Patriots Day/ Remembrance Service,” on Sunday, September 8, at 8:15 and 11 am.    Area police, fire and rescue personnel will be honored, and those lost on September 11, 2001, will be remembered.

Greetings will be offered by Landis Police Chief, Kenny Isenhour and Landis Fire Chief, Ron Miller.  Special music will be presented by The Reformers Quartet and The Voices of Joy Choir.  A Prayer of Blessing will be offered by the Rev. Tom Teichroew, and the Message will be delivered by Jon and Karyn Franks from Elon, North Carolina.  The Franks’ are the parents of Jared Franks, a Greensboro Police Officer killed in the line of duty in November 2018.

All those serving in area police, fire and emergency departments are invited and asked to meet at the church fifteen minutes before each service, dressed in uniform with your family.  Following the first service our special guests will be honored at breakfast, and following the second service they will be honored with a luncheon.

 

Free clothing and accessories giveaway
Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Hotdogs, homemade cakes and drinks will be sold. Hosted by St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 410 Hawkinstown Road. host pastor Marcus L. Fairley.

 

Celebrate Missions at Lyerly Evangelical
ROCKWELL — “Celebrate Missions” is the theme of this weekend’s missions conference at Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road.
A cornhole tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1:30 p.m. kicks off the weekend with participants playing for one of the 24 missionaries that the church supports. To register for the tournament, leave a message at 704-279-5152.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the morning worship at 11 a.m. features Christian comedian and musician Barry McGee. He has been named “Comedian of the Year” at several events, is a NASCAR chaplain, has a nursing home ministry, and has appeared with Lee Greenwood, Ricky Skaggs, and Charlie Daniels. Dr. W. C. Gaither Jr. is host pastor.

 

 

Homecoming at The Arbor
The Arbor UMC, 5545 Woodleaf Road, will observe Homecoming on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Bethel Colony in Lenoir, a residential treatment center for addictions which the church supports, will present the homecoming message.
A covered dish lunch in the outdoor picnic shelter will follow the service.

181 years celebrated at Providence UMC
Providence United Methodist Church, 6450 Bringle Ferry Road, observes its 181st homecoming with a message, music and fellowship.
Following the 10:30-11:30 a.m. service will be a covered dish luncheon.

 

The Rochesters in concert at Friendship Baptist
The Rochesters will present a Bluegrass Gospel concert at Friendship Baptist Church, 100 Porter Road, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

St. Marks celebrates 140 years
St. Marks Lutheran Church, 5202 Mooresville Road, will hold its homecoming and celebration of 140 years (1879-2019) on Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Pastor Mark Ryman comes to St. Marks from the North American Lutheran Church and will lead the service with the help of Seminarian Jennifer Needham. Jacqueline Yost Moffit will be guest organist.
A covered dish luncheon will follow the service.

 

Homecoming at Shiloh UMC
GRANITE QUARRY — Shiloh United Methodist Church will celebrate 141 years at homecoming on Sunday. Rev. David Lookadoo, pastor from 1989-1995, will be the guest speaker. Special music will be provided by Beth Cook, flutist, and Kristen Mathis will sing.
There will be a covered dish meal served by the United Methodist Women following the service. Rev. John Bryant is host pastor.

 

Homecoming at Gold Hill Wesleyan
GOLD HILL — Gold Hill Wesleyan Church, 830 Liberty Road, will be celebrating its 115th homecoming on Sunday, at 11 a.m. Returning Pastor Mark Loman will bring the morning message and there will be special music by Troy Thompson.

Homecoming at Lakeview Baptist
KANNAPOLIS — Lakeview Baptist Church, 2532 Lane St., celebrates homecoming on Sunday at 11 a.m. Rev. Jere King will be guest speaker. He is a former pastor of Jackson Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
Lunch will be served in the FLC following the message.

 

Homecoming and revival at New Hope AME Zion
New Hope AME Zion Church, 1470 N. Long St. Ext., will observe its 133rd anniversary during Homecoming Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Patrick Tate, pastor of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, East Spencer, will be in charge of the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will be served immediately afterward.
Revival services are Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 9-11, at 7 p.m. Revivalists are:
Monday: Rev. Clarence Marlin, pastor of Fairview Heights Baptist Church;
Tuesday: Rev. Dr. Bertha Pittman, pastor of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church;
Wednesday: Rev. Michael Mitchell, pastor of Liberty AME Zion Church.

Boxwood hosts Gospel Explosion
MOCKSVILLE — Boxwood Missionary Baptist Church will present a musical Gospel Explosion starting at 3 p.m. Sunday. Various groups are scheduled to perform. Host pastor is Rev. Gary S. Milton.

 

Women’s Day at Solid Rock Church of God
The Women’s Ministry of Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday at 3 pm. Rev. Dr. Ophelia Warren Livingston, senior pastor of Pittsboro Church of God, Pittsboro, is the guest preacher.
Dr. Livingston holds a BS in business administration with a minor in religious studies from UNC Greensboro; MBA from Salem International University, Salem, W. Va; MS in information security from University of Fairfax, Vienna, Va.; Master of theology, doctor of theology and doctor of Christian education from Andersonville Theological Seminary, Camilla, Ga.
Dinner will be served following the morning service. Rev. Samuel A. Washington is host pastor.

 

Women of the Word Conference 2019
Word of Life Family Worship Center, 726 East Liberty St., will host a women’s conference on the theme “One Body, Many Members – from Adversity to Triumph,” on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 14-15.

10:30 a.m.: Pastor Debra Ellison-Simmon, pastor of At The Cross Ministries.
Sunday during the 10 a.m. Service the speaker will be Minister Lucinda Bolton Jones.
