Letter: Empty cans help Faithful Friends Sanctuary
Published 12:00 am Tuesday, September 3, 2019
I read the letters to the editor published Wednesday and was glad to see that someone else is concerned with the litter issue here in Salisbury and Rowan County.
I collect aluminum cans that are thrown on the sides of the roads for recycling for money to help Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary — a nonprofit, mandatory spay and neuter organization here in Salisbury. The money from each sale helps to pay for veterinary bills, medicine, food and supplies. This sanctuary receives no town, county or state funding. We are dependent on donations and grants. So, I watch the sides of the roads carefully.
You may have seen me and my good neighbor and helper, 12-year-old Samuel, riding along the roadside in my truck with my flashers going.
Please consider saving your aluminum drink cans for us. Faithful Friends has aluminum can donation kennels set up at Uptown Dogs and Cats on Statesville Boulevard, the VFW Post on Brenner Avenue and at the Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary, 220 Grace Church Road. There are some businesses which are already saving cans for Faithful Friends, too.
If other businesses or schools wish to sponsor an aluminum can drive at their locations, please call the sanctuary at 704-633-1722 and leave a message for the Can Team.
Consider keeping a litter bag in your vehicles. They can be emptied at multiple locations, such as gas stations, fast food locations and, of course, at your own home.
Help stop the littering, trash and aluminum here in our wonderful town. Let’s keep North Carolina beautiful and clean.
