Phil Kirk to speak at sales and marketing association

SALISBURY — The Salisbury Sales and Marketing Executives Association will have a dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at The Country Club of Salisbury, 747 Club Drive. The speaker for the event will be Phillip Kirk, Jr.

Attendees may come socialize at 5:15 p.m., enjoy a seated dinner at 6 p.m. and enjoy the ensuing program.

The topic will be “10 governors I have known.”

Kirk is a native of Salisbury and has held a variety of jobs in education, government and business.

He served as chief of staff for Govs. Jim Holshouser and Jim Martin and U. S. Sen. Jim Broyhill. For 16 years, he was the president and CEO of North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (NCCBI), the state chamber of commerce and state manufacturing association and publisher of the North Carolina magazine.

He has twice served as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the largest department in state government. In 1970 he became the youngest state senator in North Carolina history at that time.

The mission of Salisbury Sales and Marketing Executives Association (“SSMEA”) is to promote the exchange of ideas for the benefit of its members and to promote relationships that encourage growth and economic development within the local community.

NSC behavioral concepts announces new outpatient clinic

SALISBURY — Dr. Nicole Sherrill-Corry, owner of NSC Behavioral Concepts, has announced the addition of a new outpatient clinic.

The clinic will be at 507 W. Innes St., Suite 105 (inside the SunTrust Bank building).

Dr. Shameika Stokes will lead the outpatient clinic. Stokes has years of experience in the social services, mental health, managed care, public school and higher education.

The business also announced new therapists, including Leandra Salley and A. Denise Thomas.

Hours for the new clinic are Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.

Wake Forest Baptist Health unveils new Lexington facility

LEXINGTON — Wake Forest Baptist Health recently unveiled its new 26,500-square-foot surgical facility expansion at Wake Forest Baptist Health — Lexington Medical Center that is scheduled to open in early September.

The $31.5 million surgical facility includes four fully-digital operating rooms that can accommodate various types of procedures and specialties, including ear, nose and throat; gynecology; ophthalmology; orthopedics and joint replacements; urology; and general surgery.

In addition, a 10-bay post-anesthesia care unit for patients to recover from anesthesia after surgery, a urology procedure room, a waiting area for families and private consultation rooms for physicians and family members will enhance care provided at Lexington Medical Center.

“We are so pleased to be opening this beautiful new space which will give our patients and their families, along with surgeons and operating room staff a much better experience for many years to come,” said Julie Ann Freischlag, CEO of Wake Forest Baptist Health and dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine. “The Lexington community has needed and deserved a new surgical facility for quite some time so this project allows people in Davidson County and the surrounding areas to continue to receive a full range of convenient, high-quality and specialized care and treatment close to home.”

Uwharrie Bank reports second quarter earnings

ALBEMARLE — Uwharrie Capital Corp and its subsidiary, Uwharrie Bank, reported consolidated total assets of $627 million as of June 30, versus $614 million as of June 30, 2018.

The bank has locations in Stanly, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Randolph counties.

Net income for the six-month period ending June 30 was $1.6 million versus $701,000 for the same period in 2018. For the six months ending on June 30, net income available to common shareholders was $1.4 million or $0.19 per share compared to $417 thousand or $0.06 per share for June 30, 2018. Net income available to common shareholders takes into consideration the payment of dividends on preferred stock issued by the company.
