The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. tonight for Rowan County.

Cabarrus, Davidson, Iredell and Davie counties are included in the watch.

Cloud-to-ground lightning, brief heavy rain, and damaging winds will be the primary threats. An isolated tornado could not be ruled out.

A watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of severe storms. A warning means severe storms are occurring in the area.
