EAST SPENCER — The annual Community Day on Saturday will be held in the center of town.

The celebration will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the 1909 East building, across from East Spencer Town Hall.

In the past, Community Day was held at Royal Giants Park. The idea to move it was to draw attention to the central part of the town, said Alderman Tony Hillian.

He said the kid-friendly event will feature free nonperishable foods from Second Harvest and Grateful Heart Ministries while supplies last. Personal hygiene products and other health items will also be available.

Novant Health will provide its mobile mammography unit.

“We wanted to draw attention to the central part of the town and bring awareness and life back to East Spencer,” Hillian said.

Alderman John Noble III will be recognized for 38 years of service on the Board of Alderman and 46 years of service with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
