SALISBURY — A Salisbury man remains in the Rowan County jail on charges of assaulting his girlfriend at East Horah and South Clay streets and trying to cut the woman’s nephew as he tried to intervene.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Jerome Lee, 57, of 1100 W. Fisher St., Apartment 7, with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury and misdemeanor assault on a female.

According to a police report, Lee assaulted the woman and her 19-year-old nephew came to her defense. The nephew and Lee got into a fistfight, and Lee pulled out a knife, the report said.

A Rowan County emergency medical crew treated all three for injuries.

Lee remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond because of the domestic nature of the incident.

Lee has previous convictions for of felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury; assault on a handicapped person; assault on a female; robbery with a dangerous weapon; damage to property; second-degree trespassing; driving while impaired; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a hypodermic needle; possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; receiving stolen goods; and larceny.
