GRANITE QUARRY — Alderman Jim Costantino says he wants to be a part of Granite Quarry’s continuing growth, and that’s one of the reasons he has filed for a second four-year term.

A retired insurance man, Costantino said his other priorities are keeping the town’s tax rate low, upgrading streets and sidewalks, and hiring a town manager.

Seats on the Board of Aldermen now occupied by Costantino and Jim LaFevers are up for election in November, as well as the office of mayor, held by Bill Feather.

Costantino, 69, faced no opposition in 2015. In 1998, he was appointed to the Board of Aldermen to serve a remaining year on the term of Richard Perkins, who resigned because he had moved to Salisbury.

Costantino then ran for the open seat in 1999 but was not elected.

On the present town board, Costantino is a member of the building and revitalization committees.

The town board includes Costantino, LaFevers, Feather, Kim Cress and John Linker. The four-year seats of Cress and Linker are not up for election this November. The mayor’s position is up every two years.

Until retiring, Costantino was the agent and owner of Jim Costantino Insurance Agency, which was affiliated with Allstate Insurance.

Costantino had been with Allstate since 1987 and opened his former office here in 1995. He graduated from high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for two years. He had four years of training to earn his Life Underwriting Training Council certification.

Costantino and his wife, Brenda, who worked with him, live at 718 Foil St. They have two grown daughters and four grandchildren.
