ROCKWELL — A Rockwell man remains in jail after authorities say he locked a tenant in a bedroom, prompting her to call law enforcement to get out.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Corey Lee Abbott, 37, of the 1000 block of Brenda’s Loop, with misdemeanor assault on a female and second-degree kidnapping. He was held in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.

A 27-year-old woman contacted authorities just after 9 p.m Saturday to say she was locked inside a bedroom of the mobile home. Deputies went to a window and saw the woman inside, then went to the front door. The door was unlocked and interior lights were on, according to a report.

The deputies noted the bedroom door was locked with a latch and padlock. A deputy pushed on the door and it opened. The woman appeared distraught and had been crying, the report said. She told deputies that Abbott her landlord, walked into her bedroom, screamed at her and pushed her, then left the room and locked the door.

She called her boyfriend, who had a key to the room but was about 45 minutes away. She then called 911.

Abbott was found next door and was arrested.

No other details were given about the cause of the incident.
