Area Sports Briefs: Rowan starts playoffs tonight at home

Rowan County starts the American Legion baseball playoffs tonight at home at Newman Park, with Greensboro Post 53 providing the opposition.
The best-of-three series moves to Greensboro’s home field at Eastern Guilford High for Game 2 on Saturday. If Game 3 is needed, Rowan (20-10) will host it on Sunday.
The winner of the Rowan-Greensboro series will be on the road for Game 1 of Round 2 at Davidson County.
Randolph County, Davidson County and Concord earned first-round byes.
In other playoff openers tonight, Eastern Randolph is at Mooresville; Kernersville is at Stanly County; Kannapolis is at High Point, and Mocksville is at Stokes County.
Junior Legion
The Area III Junior Legion playoffs get started tonight.
The top two finishers in each of the four leagues qualified.
East Rowan plays at Western Forsyth Blue; West Rowan is at South Rowan; High Point Navy is at North/Oak, and Stokes County is at Randolph Red.
Teams will switch sites for Game 2 of these best-of-three series.
Intimidators win
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Gunnar Troutwine homered and had two hits, and Sam Long threw six scoreless innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 3-1 on Thursday.
Long (4-1) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing four hits.
Up 1-0 in the fifth, Kannapolis added to its lead when Troutwine hit a solo home run.
After Kannapolis added a run in the seventh on a single by Corey Zangari, the GreenJackets cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Mikey Edie scored on an error.
Adam Oller (2-2) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and eight hits while striking out seven in the South Atlantic League game.
