Several decades ago, there were reports of Muslims in Afghanistan destroying monuments that were not politically correct. These monuments were several hundred years old but offended the sensitivities of the population.
In the last decade, icons in this country have been questioned, many being removed. These include Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Confederate monuments. The San Francisco School Board voted unanimously on June 25 to paint over murals of George Washington in George Washington High School.
