Recent East Rowan grad passes away after accident near Rockwell

ROCKWELL — A recent East Rowan High School graduate who lived in the Richfield area has passed away after being involved in a single vehicle accident early Monday.

The crash occurred when a vehicle driven by Cole Franklin Mabry, 19, was traveling north on Liberty Road around 3 a.m. The vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck a culvert.

A report provided by the N.C. Highway Patrol stated that Mabry’s vehicle overturned multiple times.

Mabry was ejected and the vehicle came to rest in a field on the side of the roadway. Officials said it’s not clear at this point what caused the teen to travel off the roadway.

Mabry was in this year’s graduating class from East Rowan High School. He played golf for East Rowan.
