Dementia expert to speak at support group

Dementia expert Melanie Bunn will speak at the Rowan County Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting June 27 at Trinity Oaks independent living, 728 Klumac Road.

Bunn is a nurse, teacher, trainer, speaker, coach, consultant, support group facilitator, researcher, mom, daughter and sister. She strives to improve the lives of people with dementia and their families. She will answer questions that caregivers frequently have: “Why does she do that? What happens next? What can I say when he says __ ? When is it time to __?”

Bunn received her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in Family Health Nursing from Clemson University and a post-master’s Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Duke University. She travels frequently to share her expertise, conducting over 200 presentations and trainings annually to health professionals, community organizations, first responders, families and others.
