Ann Farabee: ABC, easy as 123

ABC. It’s easy as 1-2-3.

The ABCs are taught to our children very early in life. We proudly listen to our little ones recite them — or sing them. But transferring the letters from the song to the actual letter usage takes a little longer. Right around HIJK LMNOP, young children tend to get lost.

What is an LMNOP?

While teaching kindergarten, I heard that question more than once.

ABC. So simple. So important.

Ephesians 3:12 says: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him.

ABC – Access. Boldness. Confidence.

ABC – So simple. So important.

We can have access

Once while standing in line on a field trip with some middle schoolers, we were told that we had been granted an all-access Pass. My students looked at each other in disbelief. We were going to be allowed to go immediately beyond the doorway and into the inner court of the building. Full access! I could sense the boldness and confidence stirring in my students as we were ushered to the front of the line.

Access is defined as a means of approaching or entering a place. If we speak His name in prayer, He hears us. A way has been made to the father, to the holy of holies, to the throne of grace, to God the father. We can enter directly into the presence of God because of Jesus Christ and our faith in him. Not only can we talk with Him about everything — but He wants us to talk with Him about everything.

We can have boldness

Boldness means to not hesitate or be fearful.

Hebrews 4:16 says: Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

What a beautiful promise we receive from praying with boldness! We will acquire mercy and find grace.

We can have confidence

Confidence is the feeling or belief you can rely on someone or something. It is a firm trust. We can be self-assured not because of who we are, but because of who God is. He is the covenant God — the promise keeper, who is willing and faithful to us.

ABC — We can have Access to God with Boldness and Confidence.

How? Through our faith in Him.

Our faith in Him — for our pardon, for our righteousness, for our supply of grace, for our joy, for our eternal life … and for so much more.

Do you feel the power in that?

We have access.

We need to use it.

With boldness.

With confidence.
