In an incident that began in Iredell County and ended on Interstate 77, two people from Mocksville led officers on a chase and were charged with drug and driving violations.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Iredell Sheriff’s deputy C. Hondlik was doing a security check at Harmony Carwash on East Memorial Highway in Harmony. She noted a truck in one of the carwash stalls.

The deputy saw the driver was asleep or passed out inside the truck. When she woke him up, he drove off quickly. The deputy got the license plate number and learned the owner, Joseph Linn Reid of Mr. Henry Road in Mocksville, was wanted on an outstanding probation and parole warrant.

The truck drove west on Memorial Highway and Hondlik followed, with her blue lights and siren. The suspect would not stop, so the deputy followed him onto I-77 south.

Deputy D. Caskaddon deployed stop sticks on I-77 just north of exit 54. The truck ran over the sticks, which punctured three of the four tires, but kept going to exit 54.

The driver was Reid. He and a passenger, Andrea Ferrebee, were taken from the truck and placed in custody.

A search of the vehicle found methamphetamine and items of drug paraphernalia.

Reid was charged with felony flee to elude, felony possession of meth, felony maintaining a vehicle for the use of a controlled substance, misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay, misdemeanor careless and reckless, left of center and registration plate violation. Reid was issued a $20,000 secured bond on those charges, and no bond for the probation violation.

Ferrebee, 23, of Highway 64 East, Mocksville, was charged with felony possession of meth, felony maintain a vehicle for the use of a controlled substance, misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay. She was issued a $10,000 bond.
