West Rowan FFA wins awards at Southwest Regional FFA Rally

On May 3, members of the West Rowan High School Future Farmers of America traveled to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to participate in multiple events at the Southwest Regional FFA Rally. 

Students and advisers dedicated much time and effort toward the competition, and the hard work paid off.

The following awards were received:

• The parliamentary procedure team placed first in the region. Team members include Sierra Lambert, Taylor Walton, Morgan Koontz, Mayerlin Alpizar, Ryley Corriher and MacKenna Clifton and adviser Jason Chester.

• Mayerlin Alpizar earned first place in prepared public speaking with Chester was her adviser.

• Rebekah Russell earned first place in job interview with adviser Tori Cardea.

• MacKenna Clifton earned first place in extemporaneous public speaking with adviser Chester.

• The tool ID team placed first in the region. Team members include Macon Kluttz, Rosty Meinus, Payton Summerall, Ben Starnes and adviser Matthew Owen.

• The agriculture mechanics team placed first. Team members include Alex Keadle, Ethan Gray, Dakota Kinley and Joshua Corriher and adviser Owen.

West Rowan FFA also had a forestry team, consisting of Mira White, Eli Wetmore, Grace Walters and Luke Walters.

During the Southwest Regional Rally, President Ryley Corriher and Vice President Mayerlin Alpizar retired from their officer duties. MacKenna Clifton was elected president and Jack Wilhelm was elected secretary.

Members of the West Rowan FFA will compete at the North Carolina FFA State Convention in June.
