Summer ARTventures: Digital Photography

April  22 • 1-4 p.m.

This intro course will cover subject matter selection, image-capture skills, group critiques and photography as art, storytelling and documentation.

Summer ARTventures: Animals in Art, ages 6-8

June 24 • 1-4 p.m.

Explore different techniques and media used by various artists to portray animals in art. Create a portrait of your own pet, real or imaginary. 

Summer ARTventures: Be Unconventional You, ages 9-11

June 24-28 • 1-4 p.m.

Students will make a garment form from their own bodies, then create a unique textile using upcycled materials. Get ready for a fun & quirky week. g

Summer ARTventures: Hand & Wheel Pottery I, ages 9-11

June 24-28 • 9 a.m.-noon

Beginning potters will learn hand building techniques like coil, pinch & slab building, plus develop wheel-throwing skills.

Summer ARTventures: Hand & Wheel: Slab to Fab

June 24-28 • 1-4 p.m.

Hand building and pottery wheel skills will be developed, as well as experimentation with creating unique surface designs and glazing methods.

Summer ARTventures: Mixed Media Paint & Textiles, ages 6-8

June 24-28 • 9 a.m.-noon

Class includes paper  cutting, painting, applied textiles and stamp making. Learn basic warp and weft weave technique and make own woven masterpieces.

Summer ARTventures: Wild About Dinosaurs, ages 4-5 years

June 24-28 • 9 a.m.-noon

Create masks, fossils and  dinosaurs using paint, paper, clay and recycled materials. Daily story time, snack time and end-of-the-week sculpture tour.

Summer ARTventures: Art + Dance, ages 9-11

July 8-12 • 1-4 p.m.

Artists will create music-inspired mixed media art, wearable dance-inspired art, and use individual choreography to translate the music and dance.

Summer ARTventures: Art in Motion, ages 4-5

July 8-12 • 9 a.m.-noon

Create to the beat with paint dancing and spinner art. Come dressed for the splatter. Story time and snack are part of each day’s experience.

Summer ARTventures: Exploring Color with Paint, ages 12-18

July 8-12 • 1-4 p.m.

Learn the fundamentals of color: value, temperature, intensity and complementary colors, using a variety of paint media and subject matter.

Summer ARTventures: Fantastical Beasts, ages 9-11

July 8-12 • 9 a.m.-noon

Harry Potter’s Fantastical Beasts inspire this exciting clay class where students will imagine and build their own beasts using slab techniques.

Summer ARTventures: Gelli Roll & Stamp Printmaking, ages 6-8

July 8-12 • 9 a.m.-noon

Students will use the Gelli method to create a design, make test paper prints and design a textile.

Summer ARTventures: Ocean Adventures, ages 6-8

July 8-12 • 1-4 p.m.

Create ocean creatures, real and imagined. Learn coil, slab and pinch clay techniques. Glazing rounds out this clay adventure.

Summer ARTventures: Clay Jewelry, ages 9-11

July 15-19 • 9 a.m.-noon

Make wearable clay art, including pendants, beaded jewelry and more. Students will design a unique lidded clay jewelry box to hold their collection.

Summer ARTventures: Clay to Table, ages 12-18

July 15-19 • 1-4 p.m.

Learn to make bowls, mugs and plates, combining thrown pieces with hand built techniques such as spouts, handles and lids.

Summer ARTventures: Mixed Media Selfies, ages 9-11

July 15 • 1-4 p.m.

Students will learn principles of art while creating selfies in the styles of Picasso, Matisse, Romero Britto, Frida Kahlo and Sandra Silberzweig.

Summer ARTventures: Painted Sculpture, ages 6-8

With a collection of upcycled  items, artists will use a variety of painting and collage techniques to turn their bare sculptures into works of art.

Summer ARTventures: Under Construction-Collage, ages 4-5

Little artists will layer materials to create multiple collage masterpieces. Daily story and snack time, movement and drama  sessions.

Summer ARTventures: Weaving Magic, ages 6-8

Students will learn the basics of weaving with yarn and how to embellish their creations with mixed media bits and baubles.

Summer ARTventures:  Fun Foodie Feast, ages 6-8

Imagine an ice cream sundae that never melts or French fries that never get cold. Create a yummy three-course ceramic “meal” out of clay in this class.

Summer ARTventures: 2D & 3D Concept Car Design, ages 9-11

July 22-26 • 9 a.m.-noon

Start to finish, students will be guided step-by-step to create an original car, while exploring methods of art and principles of design.

Summer ARTventures: Art + Music, ages 6-8

July 22-26 • 1-4 p.m.

Music and movement will be translated into art. Students will also make instruments, compose rhythms and perform on their instruments.

Summer ARTventures: Secret Storage, ages 9-11

July 22-26 • 1-4 p.m.

Create multiple lidded ceramic vessels. Artists will construct a treasure box, lidded jar and a special treasure to go in each.

Summer ARTventures: Trolls, Fairies & Unicorns, ages 4-5

July 22-26 • 9 a.m.-noon

Visit the magical fairy garden and meet creatures that live there. Make troll hair, unicorn slime and a fairy garden from your own  imagination.   

Summer ARTventures: 2D & 3D Architecture, ages 9-11

July 29 • 9 a.m.-noon

First on paper, then in 3D, students will create conceptual drawings and turn them into architectural wonders of their own.

Summer ARTventures: Animal Attitudes, ages 6-8

July 29-Aug. 2 • 9 a.m.-noon

Walk on the wild side to create ceramic sculptures based on animal favorites. Make an animal sculpture, animal mask and a decorated raised container.

Summer ARTventures: Clay Art Tiles, ages 12-18

July 29-Aug. 2 • 1-4 p.m.

Drawn concepts will be translated to clay tiles with carving and additive relief sculpting techniques. Glaze and kiln firing will finish each art tile.

Summer ARTventures: Landscape Weaving, ages 6-8

July 29-Aug. 2 • 1-4 p.m.

Working with a variety of fibers and materials, students will weave over painted landscapes, as well as accomplish free standing weaving.

Summer ARTventures: Photo Lab, ages 9-11

July 29-Aug. 2 • 1-4 p.m.

This class covers both film and digital photography, teaching how to load film, plus developing and printing in the darkroom.

Summer ARTventures: Seussical Fun, ages 4-5

July 29-Aug. 2 • 9 a.m.-noon

Create sculptures and pictures in Dr. Seuss style using paint, mixed media and found objects. We might even hear a Who.
