Five straight titles for East Rowan golfers

Mustangs keep it rolling in NPC golf

CHINA GROVE — East Rowan won the North Piedmont Conference Tournament here Wednesday at Warrior Golf Club, completing its fifth straight league title.

Coach Rhett Teems’ Mustangs had a team score of 309, easily defeated South Iredell, who shot 331. West Rowan took third place on Wednesday with a 335, but for the season, finished second and will join East Rowan in the 3A regionals.

Carson finished fourth yesterday at 362, while North Iredell (390) and Statesville (no score) brought up the rear.

The Mustangs’ Austin Miller earned medalist honors yesterday by firing an even-par 71. Miller was followed by teammate Colby Patterson’s 74, Stone Dyson (South Iredell) with a 77 and Jake Carlton (West Rowan), who shot a 78.

East’s Ethan Mastro and West’s Davis Tadlock rounded out the top five golfers, with a tie, by shooting 80s.

South Iredell’s Sean Rooney and Thomas Meyer followed with 81s, tying for seventh place, while Andrew Burke (Carson) took ninth place, carding an 82. East’s Alex Miller grabbed 10th spot with an 84.

NOTE: Carson’s Burke and Ethan Scarborough (85) earned their way to the 3A regionals, as individuals. … East Rowan’s golfers also went undefeated in conference play for the fifth year in a row.
