A West Rowan High School student was issued a citation for having a knife on school property. Rowan County Sheriff’s authorities say a tip led them to the discovery.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office issued a citation to Isaiah G. Reep, 16, who is a student at the Mount Ulla school.

Assistant Principal Julia Evans received information regarding the teen having a knife, a report said.

Reep was removed from class and was given the opportunity to give Evans anything that wasn’t permitted at the school. He told the assistant he didn’t have anything. He emptied his pockets while Evans searched his book bag.

While Reep emptied his pockets, a sheriff’s deputy noticed he still had something in his back pants pocket. The officer patted the teen’s back pocket and located a large pocket knife. The knife was folding pocket knife with a three-inch blade.

The assistant principal found vape paraphernalia and tobacco products in his book bag.
