Area Sports Briefs: Carson baseball wins

Carson’s baseball team scored six runs after two men were out in the third inning and went on to beat Salisbury in Saturday’s non-conference game at Robertson Stadium, 11-2.
Carson (5-1) got three hits from Zeb Burns and two from Logan Rogers. CP Pyle had a double.
Dandre Wilkerson had a hit to start that six-run inning.
Carson (5-1) used four pitchers, with Aaron Misenheimer (1-0) getting the win. Ryan Street pitched two scoreless innings.
The Cougars won their fifth in a row.
The positive for Salisbury was two strong innings, with four strikeouts, by UNC Wilmington signee Jack Fisher (0-1), who pitched for the first time this season.
Blaine Shellhorn and Bo Rusher had RBIs for the Hornets (6-2).

Davie baseball stayed undefeated with a 14-2 win againstNorth Iredell on Friday. Davie scored 10 runs in the first inning. Michael Shelton had three of Davie’s 13 hits.
High school track
South Rowan’s boys won a track meet with West Davidson and Central Davidson.
South won the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800 relays.
Scott Stephens won the 100 and 400. Nolan Miller won the 3200.
Brenden Finger won the high jump, while Terrence Fullard won the long jump.

South Rowan’s girls finished second behind Central Davidson.
Madison Lowery won the 1600 and 3200, Janiya Downs won the long jump. Taylor Chapman won the 100 hurdles.
HS basketball
North Stanly’s Bryson Childress made the all-district team for District 8.
Men’s basketball
Catawba senior Jameel Taylor was named second team All-Southeast Region.

Sophomore Will Leckonby (Salisbury) played in all 32 games for Guilford this season and averaged 5.8 points and 2.2 rebounds.
College softball
Catawba’s softball team swept Tusculum at Whitley Field on Saturday to start South Atlantic Conference play.
Catawba (13-8, 2-0) took the first game, 3-2, with Jordan Dean, Allie Baker and Gracie Gibson driving in runs.
Madison Hunter (4-2) won in relief.

In a wild second game, Catawba trailed twice in extra innings, but pulled out a 6-5 victory in the ninth.
Carlee Brawley had the walk-off hit, her third hit of the game. Taylor Martin and Dean had two hits each. Leah Huggins scored three runs. Brooke Walser (4-3) pitched all nine innings.
College golf
GREENSBORO, Ga. — After two rounds at the Linger Longer Invitational at The Landing at Reynolds Lake Oconee, UNC Greensboro men’s golf team (282-289) is in fifth place.
Sophomore Nick Lyerly (East Rowan) is tied for 17th after shooting 69-74.
