KINGS MOUNTAIN — A New York man fell 70 feet down a North Carolina mountain and suffered serious injuries.
News outlets report that Navas Delcid fell Friday morning at Crowders Mountain State Park. His boyfriend, Hector Calix, told The Gaston Gazette that he had just taken Delcid’s photograph when Delcid lost his balance.
Gastonia firefighters carried Delcid hundreds of feet before he could be transported off the mountain. He was in stable condition hours later and transferred to another hospital in Charlotte.
Crowders Mountain is roughly 30 miles west of Charlotte.
Calix says they live on Long Island and had stopped to hike while returning home from Miami. He says a woman hiking had helped him stay calm.
Calix says he’s originally from Honduras, and Delcid is from Guatemala.
