Concord man struck by car, killed

A 64-year-old Concord man died early Sunday morning after he fell off his bike and was struck by a vehicle.

According to a report fro the Concord Police Department, police got a call around 2:16 a.m. Sunday about a vehicle crash on Central Drive NW, near Lake Drive, involving a vehicle and a bicycle.

The initial investigation found that the bicyclist, Kelvin Jerome Caldwell, 64, of Concord, was traveling south on Central Drive. As he approached the intersection of Central and Lake Drive, Caldwell fell off his bicycle and landed in the roadway.

A vehicle, also traveling south on Central Drive, approached Caldwell lying in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle tried to slow down to avoid hitting Caldwell but was unable to.

Caldwell died at the scene due to the injuries he sustained as a result of being struck by the vehicle.
