The three-day state wrestling tournament in Greensboro got under way on Thursday,
Wrestling starts today at 9 a.m. Semifinals are tonight at 6 p.m. Championship matches are Saturday.

HS basketball
Salisbury’s girls, the Central Carolina Conference champs, host South Rowan tonight on Senior Night for the Hornets.
Salisbury’s boys are tied for second in the CCC with Lexington going into tonight’s game.
South Rowan’s girls need a win for a top-four finish in the CCC, while South’s boys could use a win to nail down a top-eight finish in the 10-team league and a spot in the conference tournament.

Carson’s girls, the North Piedmont Conference champs, head to South Iredell to finish the regular season.
Carson sophomore Carleigh Perry had her second ACL operation on Thursday.
It’s a really big game tonight for Carson’s boys who are tied for second in the NPC with South Iredell.

East Rowan finishes the regular season at North Iredell tonight.
East’s boys are tied for fourth in the six-team NPC, while the East girls are tied for fifth.

It’s Senior Night at West Rowan.
West’s girls have a huge game with Statesville.
The Greyhounds are tied for second in the NPC, one game ahead of West.
West’s boys are taking on first-place Statesville, which needs a win to clinch an outright league title.

North Rowan has finished the regular season and returns to action in the Yadkin Valley Conference Tournament next week.
North’s boy went undefeated in the YVC, the sixth time in school history the Cavaliers have gone undefeated in league play.
Both North teams will host first-round YVC tourney games.

A.L. Brown is home for Senior Night against Concord.
The A.L. Brown boys have secured second place in the South Piedmont Conference.
A.L. Brown’s girls have won five of their last seven after starting 0-15.
They can go 5-5 in the SPC if they win tonight against the Spiders.

Davie’s boys have clinched the Central Piedmont Conference championship and will be seeking a 10-0 league season when they take on Reagan.
Davie’s girls will be looking for their first CPC victory.
College baseball
Catawba (8-1) starts a three-game series against Shippensburg today at Newman Park at 3 p.m.
Saturday’s game is at 6 p.m., and the series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
College softball
Catawba (6-2) plays a doubleheader at Barton today at 1 p.m.

Mid. school girls
Erwin’s girls lost to North Rowan, 32-26.
Dasia Elder scored 23 for the Mavericks.
Allie Martin scored 12 for the Eagles.
Women’s basketball
Senior Sydni Bickford topped 1,000 career points as Pfeiffer downed Brevard 70-67 in the women’s basketball season finale on Wednesday night at Merner Gym.
Bickford, who entered the game with 999 career points, took a while to heat up, but her baseline driving jumper at the 3:28 mark of the first quarter fell, making her just the 17th player in program history to achieve the 1,000 point milestone. She was fouled on the play and converted the free throw, tying the game at 9-9.
