Letter: America should do more for the poor

It’s time for Republicans and Democrats to help end the war on poverty collectively.

There are too many suffering, starving and ill-clothed American citizens who need support. Over the scuffling, hewing and hawing about social issues there needs to be a bipartisan bill that sees to it every American has health care insurance.

In 1974, President Richard Nixon tried to propose universal health care for all, but the American health care and insurers opposed him.

Nixon stated, “Without adequate health care, no one can make full use of his or her talents and opportunities. It’s just as important that economic, racial and social barriers not stand in the way of good health care as it is to eliminate those barriers to a good education and a good job.”

With health care for all, the cost will drop and America will be a better place to live. Summing it up, Americans should do all they can to help the less fortunate members of society.
