East boys
TROUTMAN — After scoring 28 in an ugly loss on Thursday, East Rowan played much better on Friday.
The Mustangs pushed North Piedmont Conference contender South Iredell, before losing 60-56.
East led after the first quarter and trailed 32-31 at halftime.
“We executed on offense and played well enough on defense to give ourselves an opportunity to win — until the last four minutes,” East coach Kurt Misenheimer said. “That’s when costly turnovers haunted us.”
Elton Hooper led the Mustangs (9-13, 2-6) with 15 points. He scored in double figures for the 17th time this season. Gavin Sprinkle and Gabe Hinceman had nine each.
It has been a tough stretch. East has lost six of its last seven games.
“I was proud of our effort coming off a bad loss, but it’s still a loss, and we’re not playing for moral victories,” Misenheimer said. “We have to come back strong next week and fight for road wins at Statesville and North Iredell.”
Greg Liechty scored 19 to lead the Vikings (13-7, 6-2), who are tied for second in the NPC with Carson. Derrek Dulin scored 16.
South Iredell beat East in Granite Quarry, 83-77.
E. ROWAN (56) — Hooper 15, Hinceman 9, Sprinkle 9, Jordan 7, Pinckney 6, Jefferson 4, Bennett 4, Shuping.
S. IREDELL (60) — Liechty 19, Dulin 16, Everhart 9, Edds 6, Dowdy 4, Barnette 4, Aeschliman 2.

North (19-2, 14-0) won its 12th straight game and hasn’t lost since the Christmas tournament.

For the Knights (5-15, 3-10), Chase Viscomi led the way with 10 points.
The Cavaliers head to South Davidson on Tuesday. That’s the team that stunned Albemarle on Friday night.
