GRANITE QUARRY — Senior Night for East Rowan’s boys basketball team was filled with emotion but not many buckets.
North Stanly spoiled a lot of the excitement by routing the Mustangs, 52-28, in Thursday’s non-conference matchup.
It was 7-all early, but a pair of 3-pointers by Bryson Childress ignited a 12-0 North Stanly run to close the first quarter.
By halftime, it was all over, with the Comets cruising, 35-13.
Neither team scored much in the second half, with East very cold and North Stanly (12-8) being patient and subbing frequently.
Childress sat down early with four 3-pointers and 23 points. East senior Christian Bennett worked very hard trying to deny the North Stanly standout the ball, but Childress’ teammates came through with a bucket whenever he needed them.
Along with Bennett and standard starters Elton Hooper and Gabe Hinceman, the Mustangs (9-12) started Andrew Walker and Joseph Plemmons on Senior Night.
Gavin Sprinkle scored 10 for the Mustangs.
