Letter: See Meroney’s ‘Lunch at The Piccadilly’

The cold, blustery winter night began with a gentleman in a tuxedo, top hat and white gloves opening the door to the Meroney Theatre for my wife, her friend Carolyn and myself saying “Welcome to the Meroney” — just class, Clyde, just class!

Now to the show. The performance by the Piedmont Players, “Lunch at The Piccadilly,” was nothing less than perfect.

All players spoke clearly, loudly enough, and poured their hearts and souls into their lines.

The story line was timely and could apply to all audience members, no matter the age.

I had to play close attention to the words of their songs, as they all told a story worth hearing.

We have attended several plays at the Meroney and have enjoyed every one, including “Rainey,” “Walking Across Egypt” and many more. They are very funny plays.

At the reception, I was discussing with Dennis Welch how amazed I am at actors’ ability to remember lines. To the best of my memory, there were no glitches. Dennis said there is an unbelievable amount of time in rehearsing involved in making the production successful.

“Lunch at The Piccadilly” was indeed very good. I encourage all readers to purchase tickets and go support this event and the players who dedicate countless hours to offer to the public some good, clean entertainment.

There’s no doubt in my mind that “Eli” — Barry Dyson — has danced (rap) professionally before. Great job Barry, like the gold cap!

My oldest brother and family members have tickets for Sunday afternoon. I have given him notice of which scenes to pay very close attention to, of which there are many.

Do yourself a favor. Go see this show.

You will have a warm, fuzzy feeling when you leave. If you don’t, you slept through it.
