Yesterday: In 1973, some weekly specials from Mr. Max

Don’t be fooled: These are not modern-day prices. Rather, they were some weekly specials offered in 1973 at the Mr. Max Beauty Training Center. F. Max Brown had a beauty school at 414 S. Main St. at the time and could offer some pretty good prices because his students were doing many of the tasks. Margaret Thompson-Shumate of Salisbury sent in this Salisbury Post newspaper clipping from Sept. 16, 1973, that her late mother had stashed away in her collection box. “I think the hair salons and hairstylists of today would be interested in comparing the price list of 1973 with that of today — quite a difference,” Thompson-Shumate said. “The pictured Mr. Max (Max Brown) was very well known locally for his outstanding talent and his friendly personality.  As you can see from the ad’s slogan at the bottom, Mr. Max aimed to please.”
