SALISBURY – The Breast Imaging Center at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center has been granted a three-year full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Accreditation is given only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance, Novant says.

The comprehensive survey included the diagnostic breast centers and multidisciplinary breast cancer programs in all areas of the market; a reaccreditation for Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center; and a first-time accreditation for Novant Health Rowan’s Breast Imaging Center.

During the survey process, the center had to demonstrate compliance with standards established by the accreditation association for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

A breast center that achieves accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in the battle against breast disease, according to Novant.

The accreditation association is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of care and monitoring outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast.

Receiving care at an accredited center ensures a patient will have access to:

  • Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services.
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options.
  • Information about clinical trials and new treatment options.
  • Quality breast care close to home.
