In Tuesday’s Salisbury Post, Chairman Greg Edds finally revealed the real reason Rowan County Commissioners appealed the prayer ruling of the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In Edds’ view, non-Christians must win an election before “earning” the right to have their preferred form of prayer allowed at a commission meeting.

No Muslims, atheists, Buddhists or Jews on the commission? Sorry non-Christians, your values, prayers or invocations are not acknowledged or allowed in here. Edds’ notion of “earning” your public voice is simply un-American. Our voice is an unearned right of citizenship.

The 4th Circuit Court, the ACLU and the three plaintiffs are to be congratulated for standing strong against such a misguided and unconstitutional approach to governing.
