Area Sports Briefs: Gabriel helps SC State win

Olivia Gabriel (Carson) made two 3-pointers and helped South Carolina State beat USC-Upstate, 71-66, on Wednesday.

High school girls
North Davidson’s girls won against Davie County, 66-37, on Wednesday.
Emily Hege scored 23 for the Black Knights, while Ashley Davis had 11.
Olivia Tatum and Bella Kite scored 10 each for the War Eagles (1-2).

Mid. school boys
West Rowan’s boys won against Erwin, 51-28.
Athan Gill scored 24 points. Tanner Poole had 14, and Matthew Connolly added eight.

Mid. school girls
Knox’s girls won against Mooresville, 44-27, to stay undefeated.
Kyla Bryant had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Trojans (5-0).
Jamecia Huntley had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Mary Morgan scored nine points.

Jayvee boys
Braden Graham had 28 points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead South Rowan to a 56-46 win against East Rowan.
Ty Hubbard scored eight for the Raiders.

College men’s hoops
Livingstone (4-2) hosts Benedict (0-6) tonight at New Trent Gym at 7:30 p.m.

College soccer
Catawba sophomore midfielder Jovana Sanchez was named second team All-Southeast Region.
“I am proud of Jovana and the work she’s put in this year,” Catawba head coach Nick Brown said. “She deserves all of the accolades she’s received and I’m excited to see what she does in the future.”
