Checks stolen from church

SALISBURY — Maurice Jacobs was charged Thursday with trying to cash two checks stolen from Mount Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
Jacobs wrote two checks for $300 each, authorities said. He tried to cash them at the A Friend Indeed Check Cashing business on Long Street.
The checks were written on the business account of the church. The account is with First Bank.
Jacobs was charged with two felonies, attempting to obtain money by false pretense and attempted uttering.
Jacobs, 25, of Salisbury is being held on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Other arrests in Rowan County included Ricky Hall, 60, of Salisbury, charged with possession of a firearm by a felon on Nov. 22. He has a court Nov. 26 court date.
