CHARLOTTE — Lenoir-Rhyne (4-0) survived a double-overtime battle with Livingstone (2-2), 91-89, here Friday night in men’s college basketball action at Johnson C. Smith’s Brayboy Gymnasium.

Jon Jean and Djibril Diallo scored clutch buckets late to secure the win for the Bears. Diallo had a monster night with 17 points and 13 boards for his first double-double of the season.

R.J. Gunn exploded for a game-high 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting and added five boards and a steal.

Jean added 13 points and six rebounds to go with four steals for the Bears.  The Bears guarded the arc well, holding Livingstone to just 2-of-10 shooting from long range.

L-R held a 44-39 advantage on the glass and connected on 23-of-29 from the charity stripe in the victory.

In Saturday’s second day of the JCSU Tip-Off Classic, Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action against the host Golden Bulls at 4 p.m. Livingstone plays Bluefield State at 12 noon.
