Men’s breakfast at Fairview Heights

Special weekend at Southside Church of God
CHINA GROVE — Southside Church of God, 163 3rd Ave., will hold a prayer vigil Saturday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.. The church will be open for anyone to come and pray or to ask for prayer.
The 11 a.m. Sunday service features soloist Don Herbert, followed by a baptismal service. At the conclusion of the service Thanksgiving dinner will be served in the fellowship hall . Host pastor is Gloria Ross.

General Gorham to speak at Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER — Gen. James R. Gorham will speak Sunday at the 10 a.m. service at Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St.
James R. (“J.R.”) Gorham became the first African-American General in the history of the North Carolina National Guard when he was promoted to that rank in 2008.
Now retired, Gorham was born and grew up in the small town of Falkland in Pitt County. In his more than three decades of military service, J.R. commanded at the company, battalion and brigade levels, served as joint staff director of the N.C. Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh and as commander of the N.C. National Guard Joint Task Force.
In 2004, his N.C. National Guard unit, the 130th Finance Battalion, was deployed to Iraq for more than a year.
In civilian life, J.R. has had a successful 29-year career in banking, retiring in 2010 as a vice president and manager of retail banking at First Citizens Bank.

Offering collected at Mt. Zion UCC
CHINA GROVE — During the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., will be collecting a fruit offering on behalf of homebound and shut-in church members and community. Following worship, the middle and senior high youth will deliver Thanksgiving baskets and share their Thanksgiving carol.

Neal Wilkinson at Covenant
STATESVILLE — Neal Wilkinson will be in concert at Covenant A.R. Presbyterian, 120 N. Greenbriar Road, on Sunday for the 11 a.m. service.
Wilkinson is a 1975 graduate of South Rowan High School. He has soloed with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and traveled across the country singing at churches, and has sung the National Anthem at five major league baseball games. In addition, Neal has sung for ACC basketball games at N.C. State, ACC baseball games, American Legion baseball and NASCAR events.

Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the 8th pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Perry J. Dye and First Lady Cassandra S. Dye on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be the Rev. Emily Rivers, associate minister of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Union Chapel AME Zion celebrates 145 years
LINWOOD — Union Chapel AME Zion Church, 4329 Sowers Road, will celebrate its 145th church anniversary Sunday at 3 p.m. Rev. Dairl Scott Sr. of New Hope AME Zion Church will be the guest speaker. Rev. Michael Frencher Jr is host pastor.

Joint Thanksgiving service at Landmark
On Sunday, Christ United Methodist, Grace Lutheran, Landmark and Salem Lutheran Churches will gather together in thanksgiving at Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Road. The offering will go to Rowan Helping Ministries.

Joint Thanksgiving service at The Arbor
The Arbor UMC, NorthGate Church and Enon Church will hold a joint Thanksgiving service at 6 p.m. on Sunday at The Arbor, 5545 Woodleaf Road.

United Ministerial Alliance at Fairview Heights
The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Height Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road. Rev. Gena Long of Potter’s House Outreach Ministries, will deliver the message.
The U.M.A.’s business meeting is at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 East Cemetery St.

Thanksgiving Sunday
A service of thanksgiving, featuring handbells, choirs, and George Washington’s proclamation of Thanksgiving, will be held Sunday, at 11 a.m.
Community Love Feast
In partnership with the Center for Faith & the Arts, St. John’s will host a community Love Feast & Candle Service, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Faith Center. The service is focused on unity and thanksgiving, candle-lighting, buns and coffee, a trombone choir, special music by St. John’s musicians, and a message by one of the pastors.
Prayer Service for Those Who Have Experienced Loss
A time and a space will be set apart for all those grieving any loss during the holiday season on Monday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. We encourage all to come and stand alongside the grieving as a tangible reminder that we are never alone in the body of Christ.

Community Thanksgiving day service at Mt. Zion

Rev. Arthur Heggins, retired and former pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church of Salisbury, will deliver the message. He is the first African American to serve on the town council of China Grove. Music will be provided by the Praise Team and Music Ministry of Mount Zion.
