Area Sports Briefs: Time, venue changes for big SHS soccer match

Salisbury’s 2A West regional final soccer match against Newton-Conover is still scheduled for tonight, but the time has been moved to 7 p.m. and the venue has been changed to West Rowan High due to field conditions at Salisbury.

After a scoreless tussle, Clinton got past First Flight in the 2A East final on Tuesday on penalty kicks.

Chapel Hill beat Cardinal Gibbons (3-2) and Myers Park topped South Meck (2-1) in 4A regional finals.

In 1A regional finals, Community School of Davidson beat Polk (1-0) and Voyager won against Lejeune (3-1).

Championship matches are in Raleigh on Saturday.

Salisbury won recent 2A state championships under coach Matt Parrish in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Mid. school girls

Erwin rolled against Mooresville, 32-13, in middle school girls basketball.

Icesis Nwafor scored 13 points for the Eagles. Leah Hinceman had 11, while Haley Dalton scored six.

Men’s hoops

Pfeiffer lost an exhibition against Winthrop, 134-99, on Tuesday in Rock Hill.

Winthrop jumped out to  an 18-2 lead and held Pfeiffer to 34-percent shooting.

Kyle Riddley led the Falcons with 18 points. Blake Smith scored 17.

Michael Anumba scored 19 to pace the Eagles.
