SALISBURY — A Rowan County inmate who kept a jail-issued razor in his cell has been charged with possession of a weapon, authorities said.

Daniel Preston Johnson, 31, was charged Thursday with felony possession of a dangerous weapon on jail premises.

Officials said the razor was given to Johnson about 7:45 a.m. Thursday. Inmates are given razors to shave and then must return them. When Johnson’s razor was unaccounted for, a detention center officer checked his cell.

Johnson told the officer that the razor was under his mattress. The blade was still attached.

Johnson was issued a $2,000 secured bond on the weapons charge.

He was already under a $2,000 secured bond for failure to appear in court.
