Wiley Cash to speak at Concord Library

The Concord Friends of the Library is once again hosting the Deanna Irvin Symposium on Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Cabarrus Country Club.
The speaker will be North Carolina native Wiley Cash, a New York Times bestselling author who will speak on his latest novel, “The Last Ballad,” which takes place in Gastonia during the Depression Era Loray Mill Strike.

Coming up on ‘Bookwatch’

Nicholas Sparks will talk to host D.G. Martin on ‘North Carolina Bookwatch’ about his debut novel turned break-out hit “The Notebook”  today at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. “The Notebook” is on The Great American Read’s Top 100 Best Loved Books list.

Martin will talk to Sparks about his new book, “Every Breath” on Tuesday, Oct. 9. at 7:30 p.m. on UNC-TV, leading directly into The Great American Read project on PBS. It will be rebroadcast on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m.

Georgann Eubanks will be on “Bookwatch” discussing her new book, “The Month of Their Ripening” on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m., leading directly into The Great American Read project on PBS.

N.C. author Georgann Eubanks’ new book takes readers on a tour of the state’s heritage foods and when and how and where they are eaten. Eubanks sat down with Martin at the annual Bookmarks Festival in Winston-Salem.

The program also airs on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.

Writers workshop

As an award-winning author and active member of the N.C. Writers Network, he has many tips that can help. Workshop fee of $5 includes handout materials. Students free.
