High school football: West falls at Cox Mill

CONCORD — West Rowan lost at Cox Mill, 26-7, on Friday and completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-3 record.

The Falcons’ only score came on a Payne Stolsworth to Jalen Houston touchdown pass in the first quarter. Fredrico Cruz’s PAT gave the Falcons a short-lived 7-6 lead.

It was the seventh touchdown of the season for Houston (6 receiving, 1 rushing).  It was the 10th TD pass for Stolsworth.

Stolsworth was 8-for-18 for 129 yards with one interception.

Cox Mill QB Dane Horton got the game’s first points on a 8-yard scoring run.

Horton answered West’s TD with a  50-yard TD pass to Christian Henry.  The Chargers led 12-7 at the break.

Damari Coleman scored a third-quarter touchdown for  Cox Mill on the ground.

Horton threw for 175 yards and two scores.

Workhorse Jelynn Barrett carried 29 times for 110 yards for the Chargers.

Cox Mill leads the all-time series, 3-2.

West starts North Piedmont Conference play at home against East Rowan (3-3) next week.

Cox Mill (4-2) starts South Piedmont Conference play at Concord (1-5).
