Local schools collecting supplies for those hit by hurricane

SALISBURY — Several area schools are collecting supplies for those affected by Hurricane Florence. Needed supplies include non-perishable food, bottled water, toiletries and cleaning supplies. Many schools have partnered with districts or schools in the eastern part of the state and are collecting school supplies instead of traditional items.

China Grove Elementary

China Grove Elementary, an A+ art school, has been matched with another A+ school that suffered storm and flood damage last week. China Grove is collecting art supplies to send to the school, in addition to necessities like clean water.

Art supplies needed include: Notebook paper, pencils, paint, paintbrushes, clay, construction paper, markers, crayons, colored pencils, glue, whiteboard markers, scissors, erasers, tissue paper, gently used scarves, books, pipe cleaners, post-it notes and beats.

Donations will be accepted through Sept. 28, and should be brought directly to China Grove Elementary.

Hurley Elementary

Hurley Elementary School has partnered with Trenton Elementary School in Trenton, and is collecting supplies to send east.

Requested school supplies included: Gift card donations, school supplies, notebooks, calculators, binders, folders, pencils and pens, books, sanitizing wipes, manipulatives and other school supplies.

Bring supplies to Hurley Elementary School before Oct. 19.

Faith Elementary

Faith Elementary School is collecting supplies through the end of today.

Items needed include: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, paper towels, Clorox wipes, hand and bath soap, batteries, band-aids, diapers and wipes.

Bring all supplies to Faith Elementary school. Another supply drive will be held at a later date.

Southeast Middle School

Southeast Middle will be doing a dress down Friday for any student who brings in a school supply item or cleaning supply item to be sent for Hurricane Relief. They will be sending these items through another school system who will be making deliveries to the east coast.

South Rowan High School

South Rowan High School will be collecting supplies through Wednesday. Please bring supplies to the school.
