SALISBURY — Rowan fire investigators say the cause of a fire that occurred at an abandoned mobile home will remain undetermined. The fire occurred just before 7 a.m. Wednesday at the end of Cranfield Lane, near Barringer Road.

The mobile home, which is located at the end of Cranfield Lane, was abandoned, fire investigators said.

Fire Investigator Mark Troublefield said there was some power to the home and although they can’t rule out an electrical fire, with the amount of damage to the single-wide mobile home it’s unclear the cause. The only items of note in the home was a bed in one of the bedrooms and a wood stove.

The homeowner didn’t have insurance and no one had lived in the home for a couple of years, Troublefield said.

“It’s likely someone was squatting there,” he said.

The road to the home was so narrow,  fire personnel reportedly had to be shuttled closer to the fire.

The homeowner’s daughter said she’d seen a vehicle briefly that morning and then it left. The home is a total loss. Locke, South Salisbury, Franklin and Cleveland fire departments responded. Salisbury Fire Department was dispatched to the location, but canceled prior to arriving.
