SALISBURY — Brooklynne Witherspoon’s cousin, 7-year-old A’yanna Allen, was murdered two years ago. On Wednesday, Witherspoon will be in her second year of hosting a program for kids of all ages with A Bridge 4 Kids.

Witherspoon, 10, said she wants to build better relationships with law enforcement and teach her peers self-esteem.

For this year’s program, Witherspoon has emphasized getting out in the community. She said she feels “bubbly” and “wanted to do something for the community” after her cousin was killed who she considered a sister.

On Aug. 21, Witherspoon received a key to the city from Mayor Al Heggins for her work.

A Bridge 4 Kids program is Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Miller Recreation Center, 1400 W. Bank Street. The program is for kids grades kindergarten and up.
