Salisbury Civitans Award 2018 Hero Award

The Civitan Club of Salisbury conferred its annual Ernest Curtis Hero Award today to a most deserving Rowan County citizen.
The awardee is Amy Sloop Morris, who, on her way to the beach, saw a car parked haphazardly on Stokes Ferry Road and recognized that the driver had passed out from drug overdose. Amy pulled the young woman’s baby from the car and handed her to a bystander before applying CPR to the young woman and saving her life.
Morris was surprised by the award, thinking she was only invited to speak to the Club on drug awareness. Her son Eddie was present to see her receive the award.
Ernest Curtis, a longtime Salisbury Civitan Club member, was inspired to establish the Hero Award by the many heroic deeds of rescue workers and private citizens following the horrific events of September 11, 2001. The award is intended to recognize ordinary people for extraordinary actions in service to others.
