SALISBURY — Friday is the last day for candidates to enter the race for seats on the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education.

Filing ends at 12 noon Friday at the Board of Elections Office.

Four seats are up for re-election this year: Seat 1, representing the North district; Seat 2, representing the South district; Seat 4, representing the West district; and Seat 6, representing a special district.

As of Wednesday evening, incumbents for Seats 2, 4 and 6 are running unopposed. Dean Hunter in Seat 2, Travis Allen in Seat 4 and Jean Kennedy in Seat 6 have all filed to run for re-election.

Richard Miller, the incumbent who currently holds Seat 1, has yet to file.

Two newcomers have put their names in the hat. Kevin Jones, who currently sits on the Spencer Board of Aldermen, and Lawrence Bolen, a retired teacher, are both vying for the North seat.

Anyone interested in running for the Board of Education should file candidacy at the Rowan County Board of Elections office, 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd. W., Suite D-10, before noon Friday. There is a $5 filing fee.
